One Happy Podcast

Here we are for the latest episode of This Week in Aruba, which tackles the events from Tuesday, May 29th to Thursday, June 7th which actually runs from timeshare week 21 and 22. If you notice, this is a departure from our normal routine. You can hear the full explanation for this particular change upon listening to the episode.

Without further ado let’s get it started in the events category. As you all know, before this past Memorial Day weekend was all about Soul Beach Festival and with that came so many activities and parties which I’m sure took its toll on the Islanders’ and tourists’ energy. That said, this week is kind of a sleepy week with not much going around.

Onto to the cruise ships schedule portion. Things are pretty light this time of the year which is a good thing but there are some big ships that will be docking.

Lastly, we have the news section which is typically sparse but this time we actually have a quite a few things to go over including: the unfortunate closing of Legends Pub in Palm Beach (a restaurant that I was very fond of and whose owners, Scott and Leslie, I interviewed in One Happy Podcast) and some rumors going around that involve the Holiday Inn being sold to the Riu. Also, something that I’m excited about came from Amal and Peter of Alfie’s. They’re trying out this new thing on the restaurant called their Late Night Menu. Make sure to check them out!

If there’s anything at all that you would like to suggest for the show or simply want to relay feedback, please do send me an email at curt@onehappypodcast.com or drop a voice message on our hotline number (302) 635-0815.

This week’s congestions will be happening around the Soul Beach locations like Moomba during the day and the Renaissance during the night so if you’re not there for the festival, you might want to avoid those areas. However, cruise ship schedules for this week are again pretty sparse so you should have no problem finding a great semi-private spot along the beaches of Aruba.

I don’t have any news for you this week but if there’s anything at all that you would like to suggest for the show or simply want to relay feedback, please do send me an email at curt@onehappypodcast.com or drop a voice message on our hotline number (302) 635-0815.

SOUL & Mantra Singing on the Beach

When: 15 May / 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Where: Eagle Beach
Hosted by: Gea Sougé Life Coaching

Source: https://www.facebook.com/events/215126155737249/

For quite some time I have had the honor to participate in the sound meditation, voice liberation workshops and choir of Jan-Hendrik Veenkamp. These evenings always helped me to go home to myself. Very empowering to use my voice authentically. Afterwards my heart and soul are always humming like a hummingbird. In the future I love to invite Jan-Hendrik to organize a Soul Singing retreat in Aruba. But for now I would like to share the mantras and soul songs that I will facilitate intuitively and will share my passion for voice liberation.

Besides my shamanic drum I have some other small instruments but we will mainly use our most powerful instrument being our voices. No need to have singing experience nor do you or your family have to admire your voice. This type of singing is intended to open your heart, go within and find what likes to be heard.  It would be wonderful if men would also join these evenings, because it is so beautiful to listen to their timbre.

What to expect? We will be singing meditative but also celebrative depending on the group. Please feel free to try it out, and discover something new about yourself.

Sign up at 594 4250 or email geasouge@gmail.com. The song & mantra singing evenings are donation based.

Today we have with us the owner of Barney’s Aruba, Eline Huijbers, to share her experiences with the restaurant, her Aruba story, and for us to get to know Barney’s.

Eline is originally from the Netherlands. When she visited Aruba at 20 years old for an internship, she fell in love with the island and decided at once to live there. So right after college, she took on many jobs like waitressing, bartending, and restaurant management until she finally established Barney’s Aruba together with her husband, Ron. Making the jump from managing to starting her own place was both scary and exciting for Eline but everything was well worth it because Barney’s business is flourishing.

What you can expect from Barney’s is an excellent selection of international, Dutch, American, and local food with good prices and a kid-friendly place. They also have different theme nights going on, specifically: All You Can Eat Fajitas on Mondays, Schnitzel Night on Tuesdays, Grouper Night on Wednesdays, All You Can Eat Ribs on Thursdays, All You Can Eat BBQ Night on Fridays, and All You Can Eat Steak Night on Saturdays. And for all you Karaoke lovers, they also have Karaoke nights every Friday starting at 10:00 pm.

To know more about Barney’s Aruba, do visit the website at www.barneysaruba.com. Barney’s Aruba is open from Monday-Saturday starting at 4:00 pm to 10:30 pm for the kitchen while the  bar is open until 1:00 am during the week and up to 2:00-3:00 am on Fridays.

ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:

  • Find out how did Eline and Ron come up with the name “Barney’s” and whether it’s really originally inspired from The Flintstones character
  • Know Eline’s personal favorite dishes from the menu and what is the dish and cocktail that you MUST TRY should you visit Barney’s
  • Eline’s thoughts regarding what Barney’s gets right that other restaurants may get wrong
  • Hear about Eline’s experiences of raising a child in Aruba and how her family takes their vacations.

I’m happy to have fellow Aruba lover Elizabeth McKay the founder of AllAroundAruba.com with me here for this episode of One Happy Podcast.

What I absolutely love about this episode is that Elizabeth and I share the same passion. We both fell in love with Aruba and can’t help but to share that love to everyone. So I started One Happy Podcast and she started All Around Aruba. One thing is for sure, she and I share the same desire to help everyone have the best possible experience in the island.

We also talk about Elizabeth’s love for the island and its locals. In fact, she got the idea of starting her website by talking to the locals so she can tell people about the different areas in Aruba that may not otherwise know about or try out. Elizabeth also discusses her way of recommending unique places around the island and how to find them.

For more information about All Around Aruba, it’s a website that details the “off the beaten path” parts of the island that may kinda get glossed over by other websites. All Around Aruba provides fairly easy access if you’re looking for smaller or local places and experiences. It basically highlights “the different side of Aruba”, focuses on getting attention to smaller businesses, and helps you to hone in on what you want to make the best out of your Aruba adventure.

Find All Around Aruba on www.allaroundaruba.com and on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter with the callsign @allaroundaruba.

ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:

  • Learn a valuable tip for smart travel that involves Renaissance Hotel and Renaissance Private Island
  • Know Elizabeth’s great thoughts about Airbnb and her wonderful experiences with the locals she rented a room with
  • Hear about Elizabeth’s favorite excursion in Aruba

Time to kick off the latest episode of This Week in Aruba, which covers the events from Monday, April 30th to Sunday, May 6th or also known as timeshare week 17.

First of all, this is coming out a day late because of I was out of town for a very important family event, which is the wedding of Catie, Maggie’s daughter. Normally I would give my shoutout to a specific person or specific people, but for this week, I’d just like to thank everyone who made it to the ceremony and also to the ones who offered congratulatory and heartfelt words, great advice, and support to me. Thank you so much!

So we will skip the news this week but I will mention that low season has officially begun in Aruba. It’s my favorite time of the year to travel down there. It’s just such an awesome experience when the island isn’t as crowded (well Aruba is always awesome no matter what time of the year) but the population can affect your enjoyment a bit. To everyone who’s down there at this time, do enjoy!

If there’s anything at all that you would like to suggest for the show or simply want to relay feedback, please do send me an email at curt@onehappypodcast.com or drop a voice message on our hotline number (302) 635-0815.
