Looking gorgeous, smelling delicious, but tasting even better: that is what the upcoming Indonesian Table Buffet at Café the Plaza is promising. This feast for the senses will start a 5 pm; if you wish to come over for the buffet later in the evening, please keep in mind that the buffet is available until 11 pm.

.

Indonesian cuisine is very popular in Holland and for a good reason: the ingredients are fresh and they complement each other perfectly. Although some dishes may be a bit hot, others are mellow. All are delicious. The dishes will be served in a unique style: on your table on burners to keep them warm, hereby creating a festive and romantic atmosphere.

We’d like to take you through Saturday’s menu. It starts off with Soto Ayam, a clear chicken soup. The buffet has as main courses Babi Kecap (braised pork with a sweet soy sauce), Sateh Ayam (grilled chicken saté), Dragin Pedas (spicy beef with coconut), Sweet Chili Loempia (egg roll), Sambal Telur (sambal egg), Sambal Buncis (green beans with sambal), Nasi Putih (white rice), Nasi Goreng (fried rice) and shrimp crackers, sambal, seroendeng, peanut sauce and atjar tjampoer to season, enhance and complement the above-mentioned dishes. Dessert is Pisang Goreng, Indonesian Banana fritters.

Source: https://www.facebook.com/events/1519041778207190/

On Sunday, April 1st, guests at MooMba Beach are in for a major treat: an Easter Sunday Brunch that beats all brunches. And it is a fantastic deal, as the brunch is unlimited. For kids there is a special program with a dino jump, face painting and a trampoline! The activities start at 11 a.m. and will continue until 3. Parents can sip their drinks in a relaxed mode as their children are enjoying the Easter-themed fun.

The Sunday Brunch is an extravagant buffet, with a Breakfast Station with omelets, French toast and pancakes, a Cold Station with an Asian noodle salad, bruscetta, a shrimp cocktail, a salmon wrap and a goat cheese salad. There are three soups: onion, seafood chowder and sweet potato and then there is the Main Course buffet, which includes a beef stew Burgundy style, grouper with a Creole sauce or a grilled chicken breast in a mushroom-truffle sauce. Dessert deserves lots of room in your tummy, so leave some for the chocolate brownie or home-made apple-cinnamon pie; ice creams are either banana, chocolate or vanilla or a raspberry or lemon sherbet.

The unlimited brunch is a treat which should be savored with ice-cold glasses of Mimosa or Sangria; these are on special as well (not included in the price).

Although it is still early days, it would be a good idea to make your reservations at MooMba as soon as possible, especially when you are coming with a large group of family members and friends. We can only say: enjoy and Happy Easter!

After a bit of a delay due to Maggie and I catching an unfortunate bout of the flu, we finally managed to record the last leg of our February/March 2018 Aruba Trip Report. So let’s get started with wrapping things up!

We just concluded Saturday (March 3rd) when we last left off, so this episode will be all about our last full day in Aruba, which was Sunday (March 4th) and departure day after that (Monday, March 5th).

For our last day, we decided to hang out in Eagle beach on the morning. There’s always that feeling of melancholy for the final day of vacation and that day was no exception. Also, looking back on it, we were already feeling lethargic as the first sign of the flu although we weren’t aware that we were sick at that time. We left Eagle to grab something to eat at a BBQ and pizza place then headed over to Arashi beach to spend the rest of the day and watch the sunset.

Usually, Arashi beach is peaceful on Sundays but it was unexpectedly packed that afternoon. There were big groups of families all over the beach doing BBQs and generally having a lot of fun. The day did wind down perfectly as we witnessed a gorgeous sunset. As far as we’re concerned, it’s the perfect way to signify the end of a vacation.

Dinner that night was spent at The Lazy Turtle, which we’ve tried for the first time. They had African-inspired cuisine that was just fantastic. Verdict: we definitely recommend it.

The next day is departure day. Instead of spending the morning at the beach like we always do in our trips, we opted to skip out because we were both feeling kind of sluggish (again, due to the flu that we were unaware of). We had breakfast at Bugaloe’s for a nice final view of the shimmering water. After that, we just finished the preparations to head to the flight back home and made it here safe and sound.

Some takeaways from the trip are the amazing new friends we made at the One Happy Podcast Meet-up over at Barney’s and the 4 new restaurants that we ate at for the first time: Kalin, Pickles, Delicious, and Lazy Turtle.

All in all it was a great trip and we have zero regrets. As usual, we’re already planning the next trip because one can never be too early in planning a vacation to paradise.

ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:

- Hear about the wild good chase of our quest for French Vanilla Ciroc all over the island

- Learn why you should always bring your preferred brand of exotic drink down on the island with you

- Learn which restaurant had a high-quality Ceviche that Maggie really liked

- Hear Maggie's thoughts on taking Panda Express on a plane

RESTAURANTS MENTIONED:

The Lazy Turtle

Kalin's Mexican Food

Pickles, Sandwich Bar & More

Yemanja Woodfire Grill

Bugaloe

Quinta del Carmen

Hey, everyone! We are back after a short break for another episode of This Week in Aruba which covers what's happening in the island from Monday, March 12 to Sunday, March 18th.

It's been a couple of weeks since I've spoken to you guys apart from the usual One Happy Podcast episode and that is because I was down in Aruba. While One Happy Podcast is relatively uncomplicated to produce while on the island, This Week in Aruba is a different thing altogether. However, I did miss it a lot! Listen to the podcast for a real-world example of how this show can help you out, based on firsthand experience.

You may also be wondering what happened to the last part of my Aruba trip reports, and I regret to inform you that I have come down with the flu and had been feeling under the weather since Maggie and I got back home. I apologize for that and the fact that my voice may sound a little off on this episode.

I also want to give a shoutout to a couple of people that I'm very thankful for in this podcasting journey. To Marcia and Ray Frost, who I interviewed twice before on episodes 23 and 92, thank you!  You've been a very positive influence on me all this time.

Some of you asked for some news to be included in this weekly podcast. As with everything I do, what you ask for, I always try to deliver. While I will never touch on island politics that will need a lot of knowledge regarding the topic, I will bring to the table topics that may be of interest to fellow vacationers who go to Aruba in a relatively short time to escape such issues from your day to day lives. For this episode, the topics that I will cover is the weather, beach conditions, and traffic on the island during my stay.

If there’s anything at that you would like to suggest for the show, please do send me an email at curt@onehappypodcast.com or drop a voice message on our hotline number  (302) 635-0815.

Time for the 4th part of our February/March 2018 Aruba Trip and I am here with Maggie recording down in the island right now to report the events that happened from Thursday (March 1st) to Saturday (March 3rd).

Last time, we left off on Wednesday evening after going through the highest of highs to the lowest of lows all in one day. So we figured that we should put that behind us and go for a fresh start on Thursday by unwinding and relaxing all day in Eagle beach. It was a very long, satisfying, and perfect beach day with perfect weather conditions which we spent from morning until just before 7 in the evening. Our late dinner was spent at Kalin’s, the Mexican restaurant that we ate at just a few days ago. Since they are open until very late at night, it really is perfect for people like who us who are looking for a good fallback meal.

Friday was yet another beach day but this time in Palm Beach. The definite highlight of this day was the dinner at Delicious, the new restaurant near Palm Beach (where Diana’s Pancakes used to be). They literally just opened this week so they don’t even have a menu yet but the chef, who is the daughter from the family that runs Papiamento Restaurant, served us with surprise meals that were amazingly well-prepared and beautifully presented. She is passionate about her food and hearing her personally explain the dishes after the dinner was such a worthwhile experience.

The next day, we headed over to Arashi beach which hands down had the best water conditions out of all the beaches we went to this entire trip so far. Later on we met up with David and Brenda Cohen, who I interviewed in One Happy Podcast (episode 48) a couple of years back. We visited them in their own Aruban house and had such a great time. We also went to another Aruba Ray comedy show that evening and as always, they were phenomenal. Just a reminder that these shows do sell-out nightly so if you’re planning to come to one, make sure to book your tickets in advance on arubacomedy.com

So that wraps up our Saturday and we woke up the next day feeling a little under the weather. Hopefully, we won’t end up having the flu while down here in Aruba. We truly wish to finish our vacation in the best way possible. Tune in to the next episode for the conclusion of our Feb-March 2018 Aruba trip!

ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:

  • Know about an amazing chocolate dessert from Delicious Restaurant that is made up of unusual ingredients.
  • Hear a funny story of a guy from the Aruba Ray comedy show audience nicknamed “Bean”.

We are back for the third part of our Aruba February 2018 trip series. Maggie and I are currently stuck in traffic while on the way back from Eagle beach so we figured we might as well get the show started while we’re at it.

The following will be a recap of the events that occurred from Sunday night (February 25th) to Wednesday evening (February 28th).

To pick up where we left off last time, we went to Ling’s Chinese Restaurant for dinner. It was a nice, clean little place with decent food. If you’re looking for value and like Chinese food, then we definitely recommend this place.

Monday morning, we headed off to Palm Beach and set up our own little spot right between the Hilton and the Bugaloe. It’s basically a no man’s land with easy water access which is just perfect for us. However, the water topography was a little bit different than usual. It appeared a little murkier and was littered with numerous rocks, but nevertheless, that did not deter us from enjoying a beautiful day at the beach. We also stopped by at Eduardo’s to get our favorite Acai balls. They were lovely as always. Lunch was spent at Pelican’s Pier. Even though the food was good, the service leaves much to be desired which I suppose crosses it out from my list of restaurants to eat at from now on.

Moving on, that evening was truly a memorable one because we went to an Aruba Ray comedy show as planned. The funny thing is every time we watch one of those shows, we always say “that’s the best one we’ve seen yet” but this time, it really is the best. There were 5 comedians in the line-up: Ray Ellin (who’s always there), Tony V, Ricky Velez, Mike Vecchione, and Jim Colliton. All of them positively delivered. It was a phenomenal show. I am going to take this chance to encourage everyone that if you’re down on the island right now, you should absolutely check out Aruba Ray’s Comedy shows. You would be short-selling yourself if you don’t. The show will run until the end of March so don’t miss out! Visit their website for more information: arubacomedy.com

The next day, which is Tuesday, we woke up kind of late while still being pretty buzzed from the drinks we had at Aruba Ray’s open bar at the Marriott the night before. So it made for a pretty lazy day of hanging out at our favorite Eagle beach while stopping by for meals at Don Pistache and Pickles.

Come evening was an event that we were looking forward to the most: Friends of One Happy Podcast’s Meet-up at Barney’s. We are very thankful to the 30 or so people who showed up.  Thank you for hanging out with us and generally having a good time. It’s always nice to meet new people. Barney’s also did an amazing job with the snacks, special drinks, food, and service so kudos to them! One of these days I hope I can secure a podcast interview with them.

Wednesday was Full Throttle Tour day. Let me tell you that Full Throttle Tours is now in the top 5 of the best excursions I’ve experienced in Aruba. Maggie and I had a really fun time. Full Throttle Tours basically takes you on a speedboat to drift snorkel on different spots on the island. The big difference with other snorkeling tours is that the boat can move very fast, so it has the ability to take you from one end of the island to almost the next end. You can learn all about it in Episodes 101 and 102 of One Happy Podcast, in which I interviewed the family who runs the business.

After that, we had a little missing car fiasco which was thankfully resolved without further issues. So that evening, we opted for a quiet dinner and to just unwind by sitting at the beach and looking at the night sky and stars. It was the perfect ending to an eventful day and reminded us of the true spirit of vacation: relaxation.

ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:

  • Learn about the exciting snorkel locations we went to during the Full Throttle Tour.
  • Hear about a new restaurant that will open soon in downtown Aruba.
  • Hear the interesting cautionary tale about parking in Downtown Aruba.  Learn from my stupidity.

We're down here in Aruba right now for the second part of our February 2018 trip. Maggie and I are very excited to report to you this evening for the events that happened from arrival day until now.

So it started with us staying at our pre-flight hotel in Ramada, which was just nice. Nothing spectacular but it gets the job done. We arrived at the airport at around 4:40 am, with plenty of time to spare for our 7:00 am flight. We landed at Aruba just past lunchtime at 12:20 pm and everything went smoothly except for some minor hiccups over at Amigo’s when we got our rental car and our experience with the people at Super Food.

Our first meal in Aruba happened at Pickle’s, Sandwich Bar and More. As can be inferred from their business name, they specialize in sandwiches which were pretty great. Aside from that, we opted to get tasty smoothies too.

Afterwards, we spent some time in Eagle beach to nap but had to leave earlier due to a light sprinkle and an unexpected bout of cold weather. Well as cold as Aruba could get anyway.

Dinner was spent at Kalin’s and we highly recommend this place. Aside from the amazing Mexican food, their restaurant is open until 12:30 am during weekdays and until 2:30 am during weekends, which is just perfect for people like us who are looking to catch up on some late night dinners.

Come morning, we headed straight to Arashi and spent the entire day doing our favorite activity in Aruba: relaxing on the beach. The vibe was just perfect for a Sunday with families and their pets playing around in good-natured fun.

Tonight we’re about to eat some Chinese food on a place called Ling’s Restaurant and we will report on that next episode so stay tuned!

And of course, let’s not forget about Friend’s of One Happy Podcast’s Hangout this Tuesday, February 27th at Barney’s! We can’t wait to see you there.

As always, if you have feedback for One Happy Podcast or just want to leave any kind of message, hit me up on curt@onehappypodcast.com or call our hotline number (302) 635-0815. See you next time!

  • Hear a cool story of how we ended up sitting together on the flight to Aruba.

It’s right about time for my first trip to Aruba this 2018 with none other than Maggie. We’re going to be down there on the island from February 24th to March 5th for a total of 9 days.

We usually have a stable routine which includes booking a pre-flight hotel and flying out from Newark airport in which we always manage to get the best airfare deals for us.

On this trip, aside from spending a lot of time on the beach as we normally do, we plan to hit Aruba Ray’s Comedy shows a couple of nights while we’re in there. If you’re a regular listener of this podcast, you’ll know that Maggie and I are huge fans of these Aruba Ray’s Comedy and we really can’t think of a better night-time activity in the island. For more information regarding this, check out their website at arubacomedy.com. We’re also looking forward to hitting up Full Throttle Tours, which was covered on the podcast from episodes 101-102.

Another exciting event coming up is, of course, One Happy Podcast’s Hangout at Barney’s on February 27th starting at 7pm. To anyone who will be down on the island at this day, we invite you to join us! We’ll be ecstatic to meet you.

This episode will not be complete without listing out the restaurants that we plan on trying including a bunch of our staple favorites. As huge foodies, Maggie and I are always open for more culinary adventures.

As always, we will be reporting from the island via podcast forms as well as Facebook lives, so do follow our Facebook account here:

Again, if you’ll be in the island on the 27th, see you at Barney’s! Till next time.

ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:

  • Know why we recommend booking a pre-flight hotel.

There really are no shortage of activities in the island and you can surely find something for you. One of these Aruba outdoor adventures is a unique Pedal Kayaking excursion which I was clued in by a guest from episode 83 named Melissa Rose. During our interview she was positively raving about this excursion. It’s hosted by a guy named RJ, an Aruban local who’s really passionate with his business and for the place he lives. I have included an excerpt from Melissa’s interview in the episode so you hear all about her experience. If you wish to experience it for yourself, you can book it by going to www.arubaoutdooradventures.com.

Again, for those of you who will be down in the island, guess I’ll see you on the 27th at Barney’s starting at 7pm for Friends of One Happy Podcast’s Meet & Greet or Hangout time. I’m excited to see you all. As for the rest of you, see you again in a couple of weeks for the next episode!

Take a trip to Andrew Farley’s Aruba, a three-time Aruba visitor from South Carolina who has been all around the world. Find out what makes Aruba as Andrew’s favorite island out of all the island he visited so far.

Andrew decided to purchase a Marriott timeshare in Aruba by being acquainted with the Marriott’s properties in South Carolina. He first came to Aruba on November 2013 and since then, he has not stopped coming back year after year every Thanksgiving.
