Mon, 23 April 2018
Welcome back to another episode of This Week in Aruba, which covers the events from Monday, April 23rd to Sunday, April 29th or also known as timeshare week 16.
My shout out for this week goes to Peter and Amal from Alfie’s in Aruba. Originally from Canada but now full-time residents of Aruba, Peter and Amal who I interviewed on episode 79 of One Happy Podcast purchased a bar and have never looked back. Alfie's in Aruba almost immediately became one of the favorite restaurants on the island and that is mostly due to the owners focus on a great experience and even better customer service. They serve pub fare so think burgers, rib, and awesome pulled pork. And something that is completely unique to the island is their amazing poutine. If you’re someone who ever thought of opening up a bar in Aruba you really should listen to One Happy Podcast episode 79.
With that being said let’s jump into the events section:

What’s going on at MooMba Beach? |
Fri, 13 April 2018
Let’s welcome back Amy White, a previous guest of One Happy Podcast back on episode 36. She’s here to tell us all about her latest vacation on the island, which just missed the Easter season.
Easter on Aruba is a very special time. Amy tells us how she witnessed the Arubans’ culture of setting up structures along the beaches to celebrate with their extended families. She describes it as being similar to a campground or the Carnival set-up. It is a unique cultural event that is incredibly interesting to learn more about and those who were on the island during that time are lucky to have been there.
Now going back to her first guesting, she told us about her discovery of the island and how she fell in love with it. Fast forward 2 years later and she is still madly in love with Aruba which will be very apparent on this episode. She also knows a lot about Aruba; having been visiting since 2002. Amy considers it as her home away from home. She also brings her 14-year-old son along to her frequent Aruba vacations.
Amy also describes the place they stayed at in great detail, which was the Caribbean Palm Village Resort. She likes that it’s peaceful and a little far away from everything without sacrificing the quality of the amenities and convenience. It has a very homey feel which is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of the highrise areas. She noticed that the guests are also much friendlier and you can really feel the spirit of the Aruban hospitality. It also has a lovely restaurant that offers great deals, free shuttles to and from the beach, some of the most visible security she’s ever seen on an Aruban resort, an orientation session, and an amazing welcome party in which the general manager comes out to introduce himself to the guests. All in all, Amy highly recommends this family-oriented, quaint, and affordable resort.
The highlights from her trip are Mama’s Food Truck and South Beach. But the best highlights of all are just the simple joy of spending time with her son and the peace of mind and relaxation that only Aruba can offer her.

This Week in Aruba: April 3 to April 8, 2018 - Presented by One Happy Podcast
Hey everyone! We’re back for the latest episode of This Week in Aruba which will cover the events in the island from Tuesday, April 3rd to Sunday, April 8th.
Technically it should have started at Monday, April 2nd, but due to Easter weekend I had to catch up on family happenings which caused the delay in production. As much as I’d love to keep things always on schedule, family comes first, so I apologize for any inconveniences.
Moving on, I like to give shoutouts every week, and this week’s shoutout goes to Marlene Scherrenburg, a resident of Aruba and also one of the people I always look forward to visiting in the island. She knows everything there is to know about the Aruba culinary scene. To listen to her episode on One Happy Podcast, hit up this link: http://onehappypodcast.com/ep32/
Now let’s head over to the events. Easter season is a laidback time in the island, so events are a little sparse. Nevertheless, it’s a great time to bond with the family or friends and loved ones.

Fri, 23 March 2018
After a bit of a delay due to Maggie and I catching an unfortunate bout of the flu, we finally managed to record the last leg of our February/March 2018 Aruba Trip Report. So let’s get started with wrapping things up!
We just concluded Saturday (March 3rd) when we last left off, so this episode will be all about our last full day in Aruba, which was Sunday (March 4th) and departure day after that (Monday, March 5th).
For our last day, we decided to hang out in Eagle beach on the morning. There’s always that feeling of melancholy for the final day of vacation and that day was no exception. Also, looking back on it, we were already feeling lethargic as the first sign of the flu although we weren’t aware that we were sick at that time. We left Eagle to grab something to eat at a BBQ and pizza place then headed over to Arashi beach to spend the rest of the day and watch the sunset. Usually, Arashi beach is peaceful on Sundays but it was unexpectedly packed that afternoon. There were big groups of families all over the beach doing BBQs and generally having a lot of fun. The day did wind down perfectly as we witnessed a gorgeous sunset. As far as we’re concerned, it’s the perfect way to signify the end of a vacation.
Dinner that night was spent at The Lazy Turtle, which we’ve tried for the first time. They had African-inspired cuisine that was just fantastic. Verdict: we definitely recommend it.
The next day is departure day. Instead of spending the morning at the beach like we always do in our trips, we opted to skip out because we were both feeling kind of sluggish (again, due to the flu that we were unaware of). We had breakfast at Bugaloe’s for a nice final view of the shimmering water. After that, we just finished the preparations to head to the flight back home and made it here safe and sound.
Some takeaways from the trip are the amazing new friends we made at the One Happy Podcast Meet-up over at Barney’s and the 4 new restaurants that we ate at for the first time: Kalin, Pickles, Delicious, and Lazy Turtle.
All in all it was a great trip and we have zero regrets. As usual, we’re already planning the next trip because one can never be too early in planning a vacation to paradise.

Hey, everyone! We are back after a short break for another episode of This Week in Aruba which covers what's happening in the island from Monday, March 12 to Sunday, March 18th.
It's been a couple of weeks since I've spoken to you guys apart from the usual One Happy Podcast episode and that is because I was down in Aruba. While One Happy Podcast is relatively uncomplicated to produce while on the island, This Week in Aruba is a different thing altogether. However, I did miss it a lot! Listen to the podcast for a real-world example of how this show can help you out, based on firsthand experience.
You may also be wondering what happened to the last part of my Aruba trip reports, and I regret to inform you that I have come down with the flu and had been feeling under the weather since Maggie and I got back home. I apologize for that and the fact that my voice may sound a little off on this episode.
I also want to give a shoutout to a couple of people that I'm very thankful for in this podcasting journey. To Marcia and Ray Frost, who I interviewed twice before on episodes 23 and 92, thank you! You've been a very positive influence on me all this time.

Some of you asked for some news to be included in this weekly podcast. As with everything I do, what you ask for, I always try to deliver. While I will never touch on island politics that will need a lot of knowledge regarding the topic, I will bring to the table topics that may be of interest to fellow vacationers who go to Aruba in a relatively short time to escape such issues from your day to day lives. For this episode, the topics that I will cover is the weather, beach conditions, and traffic on the island during my stay. If there’s anything at that you would like to suggest for the show, please do send me an email at curt@onehappypodcast.com or drop a voice message on our hotline number (302) 635-0815. |
